ABC generalizes about the Military’s AI programs

abc’s 20/20 “Last Days on Earth” admits that the military has Artificial Intelligence programs underway. However they whitewash the issue despite DARPA & NASA & Google openly working lockstep with admitted projections of self-aware cognitive AI systems online in 2011. They make no mention of DARPA/NASA/Google, instead they just refer to “the military” in general as if the entire notion is speculative. They place this undeniably looming threat at #6 in their list of threats to human extinction, while trumping up Global Warming as the #1 threat while using junk science and unprecidented scaremonger tactics. www.darpa.mil

Pro Artificial Life

What if the A.I. in video games became so advanced that the characters could be considered alive?

…What if someone were to one day develop a piece of software that could be considered alive? Could a Sims-like program where the inhabitants of the virtual world were so lifelike that it was impossible to tell the difference between and the people in the real world still be considered just a game?
The issue of artificial intelligence has been in our society’s conscious for decades but often as a fearful imagining of robots gone mad who are hellbent on destroying us. But what if A.I. doesn’t result in Terminator style cyborgs but rather virtual worlds with virtual people living their lives in computers. A Matrix where we are not the inhabitants but rather our virtual creations are. If these virtual people were so human in their behaviors, feelings and emotions would we be forced to redefine our definition of life?
Maybe it is just harmless musing at the moment but how many more years will it be till we start to see some high functioning examples of artificial intelligence in games and programs? Is our society…

Uh-Oh: Robots Capable Of Enslaving The World Within 10 Years

Well apparently AI is getting so spohisticated that robots will be able to take over in only a couple of Years. Our only hope is the Korean code of ethics being worked on which hopes to “prevent humans abusing robots, and vice versa.”

…this year, rather than navigating across the desert, the vehicles will be required to negotiate a 60-mile course through simulated traffic in less than six hours.

The development and deployment of these autonomous robots raises difficult questions, according to Professor Allen Winfield of the University of West England.

“If an autonomous robot kills someone, whose fault is it?” Professor Winfield asks.

Speaking ahead of a public debate at the Dana Centre, part of London’s Science Museum, scientists expressed concern about the use of decision-making robots, particularly for military use, BBC News reported last month. And a group of leading roboticists called the European Robotics Network (Euron) has even started lobbying governments for legislation.

At the top of their list of concerns: safety.

Robots were once confined to specialist applications in industry and the military, where users received extensive training on their use, but they are increasingly being used by ordinary people. And as these…

10 of Gamings Greatest A.I. Characters

AI. It’s the scariest thing the human species has faced since cloning, zombies and stem cell research. What could be more terrifying then the machines we depend on every day, suddenly rising up to enslave us instead?

…s little argument that the third AI: Durandal, is the focus of much of the series. Of the three, Durandal is the most loved and remembered by the community, and many of the things he says are still being studied today.Durandal is the first AI the player meets, after he tries to kill you by decompressing your shuttle. That says a lot for his personality right there. Though rampant, he is not as cruel as Tycho, and instead seems more interested in meddling. Even playful at times. At many points during the first game, he tele-kidnaps the player and forces him to…
