By IRNA,
Berlin : Thousands of people took to the streets of Hamburg and Berlin on Friday to protest Israel’s deadly attack on a fleet of boats trying to bring aid to the Gaza Strip.
The largest demonstration took place in Hamburg where more than 2,500 people voiced their outrage over the brutal Israeli military action, branding it “open sea piracy.”
Protesters called also for the release of the remaining activists of the ‘Gaza Freedom Flotilla’ who were kidnapped by Israeli soldiers following their takeover of the six ships in international waters.
Meanwhile, hundreds of people, mostly Arabs and Turks, rallied in downtown Berlin, urging the German government to halt its support for the Zionist regime.
Germany has witnessed numerous anti-Israel demonstrations across the country since the Zionist state’s assault on the Gaza aid convoy early Monday.
More mass protests against the Zionist state are scheduled in Germany for the weekend….

Here Come the Neurobots

Brain Bots are Developing Personalities – and a Whole Lot More.

…Can we build a brain from the ground up, one neuron (or so) at a time? That s the goal of neurobotics, a science that sits at the convergence of robotics, artificial intelligence, computer science, neuroscience, cognitive psychology, physiology, mathematics and several different engineering disciplines. Computationally demanding and requiring a long view and a macroscopic perspective (qualities not often found in our world of impatient specialization), the field is so fundamentally challenging that there are only around five labs pursuing it worldwide.
Neurobotics is an outgrowth of a growing realization that, when it comes to understanding the brain, neither computer simulations nor top-down robotic models are getting anywhere close. As Dartmouth neuroscientist and Director of the Brain Engineering Lab Richard Granger puts it, The history of top-down-only approaches is spectacular failure. We learned a ton, but mainly we learned these approaches don t work.
Gerald Edelman, a Nobel Prize-winning…

WSJ.com - At Least Nine Dead After Israel Intercepts Gaza Ai

At least nine activists were killed in a skirmish after Israeli forces intercepted a flotilla of aid bound for the Gaza Strip, in violence that risks inflaming tensions across the Middle East.

…the loss of life and injuries sustained in this incident. We’re working hard to determine what happened on board the ship.” Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will meet with the Israeli foreign minister in Washington on Tuesday, he added, so “we’ll have an opportunity to follow up directly tomorrow.”European capitals reacted more angrily. French President Nicolas Sarkozy expressed his “deep emotion in the face of the tragic consequences of Israel’s military operation.” In a statement, Mr. Sarkozy said he “condemns a disproportionate use of force.”Britain’s Foreign Secretary, William Hague, said in a statement that the U.K. has asked for information about British citizens believed to be aboard the flotilla and called on Israel to lift its blockade of Gaza. “I deplore the loss of life,” he said, adding that “there is a clear need for Israel to act with restraint and in line with international obligations.” Israel defended its actions, saying armed activists attacked Israeli soldiers as they were being lowered…

A Molecular Computer That Evolves

A new molecular computer uses an organic molecular layer and can evolve to solve complex problems, similar to neurons.

…Interestingly, the evolving patterns generated on the molecular layer when viewed with a scanning tunneling microscope bear an uncanny resemblance to fMRI images of various events in the human brain. The researchers next used the electrically charged tip of the scanning tunneling microscope to individually set molecules in the top layer to a desired state, essentially writing data into the system.

Molecular computing is most frequently associated with DNA computing: custom-synthesized DNA strands are combined with enzymes to create output strands. DNA computing is limited by its ability to return only yes-or-no answers (0, 1) like a binary computer one strand is longer than another. This results in static circuits that are unable to evolve. In contrast, the electrical circuits of our brains are dynamic, ever-changing and evolving networks of neurons that process events in parallel. While conventional computers are typically built using two-state (0, 1) transistors, the molecular layer is built using a…
